Updated On: Jan 31, 2010 (10:41:00)

While crews were switching shifts on the morning of January 31st a citizen walked into headquarters and advised he had a smell of smoke in his house which was located 2 houses down from Station 3.  The officers of Engine 3 and Rescue  immediately requested Savannah Fire dispatch units to the scene. Engine 3 and Rescue 1 had a response time of about 15 seconds.  Engine 3 set up command and Rescue 1 went in to investigate.  Rescue 1 could smell something electrical as soon as they walked in.  Engine 5 and Truck 5 arrived on scene and assisted interior crews checking for the cause.  Engine 9 stood by as RIT.  After a lengthly investigation crews narrowed the source of the smoke down to a hvac units.  Crews advised the homeowner to have a mechanic look into the issue before using it again.

All Savannah Fire units cleared the scene and no one in the structure was displaced.
