Fire destroys vacant home
It took more than 30 firefighters to extinguish a blaze that destroyed a vacant Liberty City home.
A neighbor called 911 around 8 p.m. on Wednesday after spotting smoke coming from the house at 1825 Stuyvesant St., said Capt. Matthew Stanley, spokesman for Savannah Fire and Emergency Services.
Firefighters arrived within two minutes and found flames coming through the roof. They quickly called for backup, Stanley said.
A total of 31 firefighters from six stations extinguished the flames in about an a hour and 20 minutes.
Firefighters interviewed the homeowners and learned the house had been empty.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
"We can't make a determination right now because of the amount of fire damage," Stanley said.
No injuries were reported.
